A visit to Martyr Memorial Residential Schools in Nepal was carried out in December 2015 and January 2016 by Health team for Nepal, an organization based in Norway. Sanjay Aryal, leader; Hamid and Dr. Krishna Aryal, members of the organisation visited the schools as follows:
Kaski, Pokhara: Martyr Memorial Residential Higher Secondary School, Majhauripatan. December 19th and 20th, 2015
Dang, Ghorai: Martyr Memorial Residential Higher Secondary School, Manpur December 22nd and 23rd, 2015
- Dolakha, Jiri: Martyr Memorial Residential Secondary School, Jiri December 31st, 2015 and 1st January, 2016.
These schools that the team visited are among the five schools established by Martyr Foundation Nepal (MFN), one school in each development region as: Eastern Region in Sunsari, Central Region in Dolakha, Western Region in Kaski, Mid-Western Region in Dang and Far Western Region in Doti.
Since the establishment of these schools in 2009, MFN has been managing free and quality education to the children from martyr families, i.e. children of members of the People’s Liberation Armies who died, disappeared by the state or injured during the Peoples’ War that lasted for ten years (1996-2006). In addition to the children from the martyr families, about 15 percent students are admitted among the poorest and lower cast families from the locals.
The team held a meeting at MFN office, Balaju on 4th January 2016 and briefed about the observations and the issues in the schools. Chairman Mr. Ek raj Bhandari, Office manager Kantiram Dungana and Account manager Devraj Dhungana, Sanjay Aryal and Dr. Krishna Aryal were present in the meeting.
